The untitled movie directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu starring Tom Cruise has been given a release date.
Iñárritu — known for directing 2014’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and 2015’s The Revenant, among other titles — is now working on a new movie that stars Cruise, Sandra Hüller, and more.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have now given the film, which does not yet have a title, an October 2, 2026, theatrical release date. It will also be shown in IMAX theaters.

“The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything,” the logline for the film reads.
The film is produced by Iñárritu, Cruise, and, Mary Parent. Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Along with Cruise (Mission: Impossible, Top Gun: Maverick) and Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), the cast of the film includes John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name), Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal).
In addition to the aforementioned titles, Iñárritu previously directed 2000’s Amores Perros, 2003’s 21 rams, 2006’s Babel, 2010’s Biutiful, and, most recently, 2022’s Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
Cruise will next be seen in the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which will be released in United States theaters in May 2025. Hüller, meanwhile, recently wrapped production on Project Hail Mary, a new film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller that also stars Ryan Gosling and Milana Vayntrub. That movie will hit theaters in March 2026 from Amazon MGM Studios.
