Richard Perry passed away at the age of 82 on December 24, 2024, at a hospital in Los Angeles.

Cardiac arrest was attributed as the cause of Richard Perry’s death by friend Daphna Kastner Keitel, who confirmed the news to The New York Times.

Perry is survived by his three brothers, Roger, Fred, and Andrew. He was married twice in his lifetime, once to Linda Goldner and then to Rebecca Broussard. He also dated Jane Fonda for eight years between 2009 and 2017 and was also involved with Elizabeth Taylor.

Richard Perry began his career in music in the 1960s following his graduation from the University of Michigan. He first produced “Safe as Milk” with Bob Krasnow for Buddah Records. He then joined Warner Bros. Records as a producer, where he oversaw the production of several albums like Fat Domino’s comeback, Fats Is Back, and Ella Fitzgerald’s Ella.

He then recorded Tiny Tim’s first album “God Bless Tiny Tim.” He later worked with other notable names like Barbra Streisand, Harry Nilsson, and Ringo Starr, producing their respective albums Stoney End, Nilsson Schmilsson, Ringo, and Goodnight Vienna.

Later in his life, he worked with Ray Charles on My World in 1993 and Rod Stewart on his The Great American Songbook series.

Perry launched Planet Records in 1978 and signed many artists like the Pointer Sisters, Single Bullet Theory, Full Swing, American Noise, and Bill Medley. He sold Planet Records to RCA five years later in 1983.

Richard Perry never won a Grammy Award but got seven nominations. He was honored with a Trustees Award from the Recording Academy in 2015.
