With Kraven The Hunter’s release, many are eager to know if a second installment is possible. Directed by J.C. Chandor, the SSU’s new movie focuses on Sergei Kravinoff’s experiences tough childhood all thanks to his father. However, his one confrontation with a lion, changes his life forever, making him a feared hunter of all time, who is out for vengeance.
Here’s all we know about the Kraven The Hunter 2 release date and whether or not it’s coming out.
Is there a Kraven The Hunter 2 release date?
There is no Kraven The Hunter 2 release date as Sony hasn’t announced another installment.
Generally, another installment depends on audience reception and a movie’s performance at the box office, both domestically and internationally. Previous SSU installments, including Morbius and Madame Web, didn’t turn out to be a commercial success as expected. However, there were still hopes for the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led film, since its trailer release. Nonetheless, it suffered the same fate as the previous SSU stand-alone movies. The movie debuted at $11 million, receiving a massive negative reception from audiences and critics alike. (via New York Post)
With the movie being a commercial flop, another sequel might not be possible.
Why Kraven The Hunter might not be happening
Kraven The Hunter 2 probably isn’t coming out. The reason behind another installment appearing slim is due to the movie’s underwhelming box office performance and negative reception.
The film’s final moment witnesses an epic confrontation between Kraven and his brother, Dmitri. While all should have ended well for the duo, things take a tragic turn for Kraven. Dmitri, now having been graced with powers and declaring himself “The Chameleon,” takes over his father’s criminal empire. Now, a fully-evolved Kraven, sporting his comic-accurate puff jacket, thinks of the possibility of hunting his biological brother.
The final moments do set up a storyline for another installment, however, its weak performance might serve as a hindrance.
In a conversation with Comic Book, Chandor expressed his hopes of fleshing out more of Kraven’s arc, only if the audience shows up at the theatres. “So the character that that we created, if everyone comes out and supports the film and we get to keep telling this story, that is where we were heading towards. And the depth and darkness and challenge that comes along with that storytelling … I think if you know that canon, and you give us a chance, you’ll see that we’re trying to build off the spirit of that original document,” he said.
