Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim digital release date for the newest installment to the studio’s blockbuster fantasy franchise. This comes a little over a week after the animated prequel’s theatrical debut.
“Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The War of the Rohirrim tells the saga of the legendary House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan,” reads the official synopsis. “When a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord attacks seeking vengeance for the death of his father, Helm’s daughter Héra must summon the will to lead the resistance or face total destruction.”
When is The War of the Rohirrim digital release date?
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting on Friday, December 27, 2024. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film still managed to receive a positive score from the audience with a Popcornmeter rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The animated prequel was directed and produced by Blade Runner: Black Lotus’ Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay written by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou, based on the revered books by J.R.R. Tolkien. The voice cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan; Gaia Wise as his daughter Héra; and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf. Miranda Otto, who delivered an unforgettable, award-winning performance in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, reprises her role as Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, who serves as the tale’s narrator. The voice ensemble also includes Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna and Janine Duvitski.
