157 calves tried escaping after a Texas driver flipped their trailer

157 calves were in danger as a Texas driver caused their livestock trailer to flip over. They had to be rounded up.

Over 100 baby cows briefly tasted freedom after the trailer they were being transported in flipped over. The Texas driver needed help collecting him after causing his truck and the livestock trailer to roll.

A Texas driver was pulling an enclosed livestock trailer on a normal morning on Highway 156 near La Plata when an accident occurred. Something caused him to flip his truck and trailer filled with 157 calves.

Multiple agencies immediately responded to the scene including the La Plata Community ire Protection District, Macon County Rescue Squad, Macon County Ambulance, and Macon County Sheriff’s office.

Police officers found the livestock trailer filled over on the north side of Highway 156. The driver was unharmed, and he escaped his truck before emergency responders arrived. His information hasn’t been released.

But a few of the 157 calves on board escaped. According to KTVO, local farmers were called in to round the baby cows up. The rest were safely unloaded and placed in a different trailer to travel to their destination.

By some miracle, none of the cows were hurt. However, I need more answers. For example, what caused the truck and trailer to roll over? How fast was the driver traveling and was he distracted?

Also, where were the cows going? Were they going to a meat plant to be processed as veal? Were they going to a farm to be raised for beef? Perhaps they were heading to an auction to start new lives on different farms.

High-quality calves can fetch between $140 to $700 depending on their weight and quality. A 500 lb calf is worth $500, but with 157 babies in the small trailer, I’m assuming they were smaller.
