SINGAPORE: An Indian-origin man on Saturday was charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons after he slashed a man in a residential area in Singapore.
R Nadhiban, 22, who ran naked in the Hougang housing estate, is accused of using a knife to slash 30-year-old Kaalithasan Govindaragi, also of Indian descent, on April 17 at about 1 pm at the open space car park between two apartment blocks.
The victim, who was with his three-year-old son, sustained injuries to his arm and was taken to a hospital.
Nadhiban was ordered to be remanded to the Institute of Mental Health for medical examination. His case will be brought up before the courts again on May 2, reported The Straits Times.
If convicted, he may face imprisonment of up to seven years and caning for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
In an earlier statement, police said a member of the public intervened to move the victim and his son from the attacker. After attacking the victim, the naked man damaged a parked vehicle before he picked up a wooden plank with nails and used it to damage a stationary bus nearby.
As police moved in to arrest him, Nadhiban attacked them with the wooden plank, resulting in minor injuries to three officers, the Singapore daily report said.
